Research Paper: Bamboo-inspired Ultra-strong Nanofiber-reinforced Composite Hydrogels

AM.NUS is proud to congratulate Dr. Zhai Wei on her team’s exciting achievement!

Dr. Zhai and her team at NUS Mechanical Engineering have engineered a bamboo-inspired hydrogel that not only absorbs impact with impressive strength, but can also lift over 50,000 times its own weight – all while using sustainable, bio-based ingredients.

This ultra-tough, flexible material opens up exciting possibilities for protective gear, medical devices, and soft electronics. A big congratulations to Dr. Zhai and her team on pushing the boundaries of bio-inspired materials and engineering innovation!

Check out the video in the original NUS College of Design & Engineering post to see the hydrogel in action.
