Research Paper: Dynamic response in high strain rate deformation of stainless steel 316L fabricated by selective laser melting

This Centre-supported study published in Materials Science and Engineering on 23 February 2025 examines the high strain rate deformation behavior of selective laser melted (SLM) stainless steel 316L under different printing strategies (0°, 90°, and 67° scanning angles) and heat treatment conditions. The results show that SLM SS316L exhibits strain rate sensitivity and thermal softening effects similar to wrought SS316L. The study also establishes material constants for the Johnson-Cook model, providing insights into the material’s flow stress under extreme conditions.
